On the Ride Home
This will be your puppy's first experience away from us and alone with you.
Its a good time to let your puppy gradually get to know you while everyone is being calm and relaxed in the car. Keep in mind that he is taking everything in, and reassure him with a calm, sweet voice that you are his or her new family! Also be sure that you do not allow the newest member of the pack to associate you with an under dog status in any way, I know he's just so cute, but that's no excuse to act up, you do not want him to begin thinking that it might be okay to get away with things with this new face (aka you!)
Puppies need to know your expectations consistently from the start of your relationship, so be sure to communicate to them properly while they are developing their personality and behavior in your presence.
Hurry Up / Bathroom Breaks ?
There is a good possibility your puppy will be able to ride all the way back home without needing to go to the bathroom, depending on the length of your trip. Remember that if you give puppy water or food, they will need to go to the bathroom within 5-10 mins.
(They eat breakfast and dinner, so you probably will not need to feed them on the way home.)
If your puppy starts to cry and look around, he may be looking for a spot to relieve himself.
We reccomend having some newspaper or wee wee pads on hand in the car, just in case you are unable to pull over for some reason. If you can find a rest stop or safe place to pull over, that's great! Otherwise, you can put the pads down in the floor board and let him down on there to go, or you can bring an extra card board box to put the paper/pads in, and set him in there to go.
Also, You can get water at the drive thru- but don't give your puppy any of that people food! That unnecessary spoiling can lead to an addiction on his part, and may lead him to expect your food the next time you eat.. and the next.. lol! Table scraps are not recommended for good health, especially for minis who need to maintain their ideal intake so as not to get overweight and grow beyond expectations..
