how to Contact us about adopting a Beagle !
We appreciate you learning about Sunshine Acres and reading the website to learn about our home and family raising your new family member!
As you can imagine with our Beagles counting on us, we put them first over sitting at a desk typing all day, or answering phones when a birth, or adoption is happening here :)
or we might be busy meeting with one of our families,Connors parents drop off his personal pet therapy pet "Gaige" and see some new babies we are working with that day. When the family goes on vacation to Myrtle Beach Gaige comes to visit his first home again!
Back for another one...
this young couple got a silver female and then returned to us in NC. for another little one the next year ! |
We want to know with whom, and where our puppies will be going to spend the rest of their lives, so providing this information helps us a great deal with getting to know you and getting the conversation going.
as you read thru our website youll notice how often
we refer to our adoptive families as "repeat customer's " , we jokingly say you cant just have one.. this family got hooked on Sunshine Beagles. Over the years they have adopted a total of 7
puppies from our family !! |
When contacting us please keep in mind this isn't like a store front, we don't have products on the shelf to sell.
We don't sit at the computer all day , and cant stop what we are doing to answer phone calls easily, so we depend on folks to email us with their family details and home/yard, fenced or walked on leash etc. so we can respond to their request to become approved for one of our hand raised beagles when we have a moment to concentrate on their request for approval to adopt.
the Hillicker family came down from New York
to pick up their new family member at our Monroe NC location :)

Tell us about your home for one !!
Our beagles fit into a variety of different Households! Singles, pre-parent Couples to Empty Nesters, all looking for a beagle to raise and enjoy!
Puppies learn the rules of life from everyone they interact with, so its important that your attentive puppy is learning what should be learned to be a responsible member of your household and pack. Its good to tell us about other people who may influence your puppy, and allow yourself to recognize these influences so that you can cover all your bases and go over the ground rules on handling your new "baby" with newcomers. If someone thinks a puppy is just there to look cute, its important to remember that they will only be around your puppy for a day, and while it may be all 'fun & games' to them, you will be the one around your puppy for their lifetime, living with whatever habits he has been allowed to learn.
It is important for their future of a healthy lifestyle, and important for your future of happiness.
A fenced yard is a major plus, since all dogs benefit from exercise, especially the standard size. Having the ability to burn off some steam helps to balance their temperament and allows them to better relax and focus in training.
We understand in some areas this is not always possible. If you do not have a fenced yard, an invisible fence can work too once your dog is old enough, and until then you could use the moveable playpens for your puppy.
When there is no fence, walking your dog multiple times a day becomes a big responsibility. Everyone in the family must be on board and equally committed to the responsibility- one that should not be left up solely to the kids. Although walking a dog is a great activity for kids to learn responsibility, it is also very important that your dog get adequate exercise and a committed adult should be involved with ensuring this. If your work picks up and you end up working all day, and there is no way to let the dog out every so many hours, perhaps consider fencing your yard and adding a doggy door, invisible fencing, hiring a pet-walker or some alternative that allows him/her to get out and relieve themselves.
Our beagles fit into a variety of different Households! Singles, pre-parent Couples to Empty Nesters, all looking for a beagle to raise and enjoy!
- Singles make great one on one leaders for their pups- since the future of their puppy is entirely in their hands, it is simple to stay consistent during the learning process, as your puppy learns directly from everything you say and do!
- Couples are also wonderful parents for our babies, and its so great when they can start their family with a puppy to raise together, its a great experience as they work together towards ensuring a wonderful future for their baby, and can have their beagle all trained before possibly kids come into the picture in the future! Couples have often told us it was a great learning experience and they loved being able to raise their baby beagle together first, guiding him or her through life together.
- Families with Teenagers are also fun packs for a puppy to grow up in. Teens must remember that the beginning of the puppy's life there in your home is an introduction to the rules of the pack, so that the rest of their life can be spent enjoying your pack responsibly.
Starting off calm is the best way to introduce your puppy to the pack, so that he or she can focus on the rules before roughhousing, so that playing isn't their only focus when they are bigger and stronger. You can always add playing to their lifestyle later, but don't corrupt them with too much hyperactivity while they are learning! lol - Families with well-mannered Children often prove to be a responsible homes for our puppies as well, as long as the whole family remembers that they are making this decision as a pack, and that puppies learn from the entire pack. Our puppies have made wonderful buddies for responsible kids to grow up with, an enriching experience which helps expand a child's understanding of life, including action and consequence, growth and responsibility, for an ultimately healthy lifestyle
- However, we have had to turn away families before whose children we could tell were not ready for a puppy and/or didn't listen to or respect their parents. If a child is too hyper, disobedient to their parents, or rough with the puppy, and especially if likely to be alone with him/her at times, we are not comfortable sending our baby into that environment.
- Some children have also even been afraid of dogs, including newborn puppies, and this is also not a behavior we like to see either. If a child is afraid of the puppy before the learning pup has even done anything wrong, how will the parent & the puppy alike know in the future whether the child is serious about a problem or not, and whether the puppy needs to be corrected in order to move forward and ensure a healthy, working pack for the years to come?
Teething is a natural thing that all puppies go through, but a puppy should not be allowed to think biting Flesh is a possibly acceptable outlet. Even though a biting puppy may not hurt yet, it will in the future, and allowing the biting of flesh will cause a loss of respect for your flesh & your authority. A big dog who thinks he can bite DOES hurt, and one who has been allowed to think he can overrule you is a problem. Biting leads to a loss of respect, loss of obedience, and possibly problematic dominance later on. If a puppy nibbles on someone's finger, you need to be able to react & correct him/her, and not allow that to be an accepted behavior. If your child is afraid of dogs or inconsistent in behavior, how will you know about the puppy's behaviors & developing habits?
We have also seen children scream around new learning animals when a puppy is brought into your home, this behavior can scare and startle the puppy, and lead to confusion, therefore a harder time learning from you when you actually do mean it.
So we encourage good behavior from children- its like Santa Clause as some have mentioned- you better be good or you won't be getting a family raised puppy from us! But sincerely wanting your puppy to become a good dog by taking the steps to train them is the main focus, and many have benefitted from early puppy kindergarten classes, especially when their are kids- starting early helps set the right habits in motion.

We apologize ahead of time if we do not get back to you right away, please do not take it personally; we get many emails a day, not just a few, so if we just haven't gotten the chance to sit down and review the details and answer emails, its very likely that others did not get a reply yet either, meaning you are not necessarily missing out on a spot in the claiming process. If a few days have gone by- feel free to forward your message again so we see your sincere interest!
One of the reasons we have even gone the extra mile to develop an extensive website, is to share our immense knowledge that has been gathered & repeated over the years so that sincere families can learn about it all ahead of time before making the next step, helping our committed families help themselves make the best decision, and cutting down on the time answering repeat questions that take away from our time given to each of our sunshine acres family members.)

Families who are cheery and excited about getting a beagle often get their replies first!
We have an on-gong relationship for many years to come, as our best customers send photos, & updates of how their baby they adopted from us (its first home) has become the love of their life! So of course we are somewhat selective and most apt to choose those who convey a good attitude towards our family, & a responsible nature to take advantage of everything we have to offer on our website before trying to contact us to ask if we have any available beagles paying attention to the given info & following our tips now, thus being more likely to heed & follow the wonderful advice we provide for after getting their beagle ) because ultimately...
We want you to be able to fully enjoy the happiness of a true companion pet,
and for everyone to be in perfect harmony!

we have one adult female we would love to find a good home for. She could return in the future next spring to have a litter if someone wanted to adopt Sunny and bring her back they could keep a puppy to come home with her like recently retired Paisley did. Her new owners love having both girls now. they had no puppy experience but Paisley did and she is doing a great job training the new pup for them lol..
sunny could do the same , or just be a pet for someone either way is fine.
