Health, Vet Checkups
If your puppy was due to have a shot, we like to do it in front of you the day you come to pick them up
(we also peel of the label from the shot vial & stick on their Health Folder for reference),
Then 2 to 3 weeks after purchasing your puppy, is when you should make your appointment for a followup booster shot.
You can call your vet a little ahead of time and ask for a puppy booster appointment. This First Booster Shot will give you an opportunity to meet with them and basically interview them and see if that's where you want to continue to take your pet, if you don't already have a preferred Vet in use.

If you welcome your puppy into your home around the age we recommend for best bonding & beginning establishing the routine of your family, then there should be two-three additional booster shots required, 2-3 weeks apart, for a total of 3-4 shots, sometimes called a series. Different vets may vary in what they recommend, we typically do 4 for the puppies that we keep.
We worm the puppies every 2 weeks, and the day they go home with you. Worms are in the soil & other dog's stool, and can be easily picked up. This is why it's a good idea to get your own wormer medicine, so that you can do it yourself. We suggest you pick up your own bottle of wormer from Petsmart, or You are more than welcome to simply use our Petsmart link or Jeffers link & on suggested items page!) and give your puppy the recommended dosage 2 days prior to your next vet visit. This will allow time for the worms to pass out of his system if he has picked up any new worms since coming home. The bottle runs around $13 and will probably last until the vet puts your puppy on a once-a-month prescription pill later. If you do not worm him yourself, the vet can give him a one-time-worming, which can run around $15-$30. Wormer medicine is tasty & easy to give. They say it's caramel flavored- but I haven't tried it myself! You can pour it on their food, or we are happy to give you a syringe if you want to give it to your puppy by mouth. They will lap it up.
You can expect to take your dog in for a rabies shot at 4 months, and a yearly booster shot.
