Sunshine Acres Beagles Angel's Story
Angel truly lived up to her name. She was the beagle that started it all; inspiring me to raise beagles for pet homes, and pursue improving the breed in our lines so that they are completly well suited for family life. |

Angel replaced a hunting beagle purchased in Tampa Florida. That dog was horrible now that I look back! The hunting bred beagle would fly out the apartment door whenever someone came by, and I would chase it for literally hours, if I did see her she would actually run the other direction! Her nose was her master. Her name was Aubie and she never liked to cuddle or be close to me. Soon after building her a fenced yard, she escaped it and was hit by a car in the busy road out front of the guest house where I lived next. After feeling guilty for the loss I spoke to her vet in Seattle who told me about Northwestern Beagles.. show bloodlines. He explained the differences and it made perfect sense after all the trouble Aubie's hunting instinct had caused me! Show dogs are raised as indoor companions not bred for the instinct to hunt.. |
Once I bought Angel we were inseparable.. I took her with me inside my winter coat to the hardware stores and grocery stores.. and she never moved an inch, she would stick her little head out and stay right there. I even sat her on my lap while I got a gold crown put on my tooth and she was so quiet, and the dentist didn't even mind!

Angel was an Angel,.. I kept her in a cardboard box the first night home from the Breeders house and she never cried a bit. Soon after getting her my old job called and asked me to come work one more week they actually just wanted to throw me a baby shower, but didn't tell me this! I didn't think I should come back to work with a new puppy , but they convinced me to bring her to work also, so I did. She stayed in a little box under my desk while I showed apartments and no one even knew she was there. I taught her to go "hurry -up" and she would go on command when I took her outside.

After the baby shower I returned home and we got a Dalmatian also. Angel welcomed the new member into the family. They became great friends and had a wonderful time together.

Angel meets the newborn baby..
My daughter Christi was born in the Spring of 1990, up until that point Angel had been mommies baby so I wondered what her reaction would be to the new comer! With her typical loving affection she welcomed little Christi into our home and snuggled right up to her the very first day home from the hospital. Angel was always so Gentle I never worried about her a bit.

As Christi grew she and Angel continued to be best buddies, she allowed herself to be a pillow, anything.. in order to stay close to the family
By the time Christi was walking I had decided that Angel was a saint !
Her name was appropriate, and I wanted to breed her to create more Beagles with her sweet temperament and couch potato loyalty! All the beagles I had had in the past were the field trial run-away nature, Angel was a Homebody, and there simply aren't enough of those in this part of the country! I knew Seattle weather wasn't for a Southerner like me, and I would be moving home before long, so I located a pet beagle male with an awesome Show Champion Pedigree to breed Angel to, to start my bloodline to bring south.
Kodiak Little Boy was a tiny little doll ! And the puppies they produced were adorable !! (See his Pedigree on the show vs. hunter page by clicking on the Pedigree)

Angel's indoor raised pups see the outside world
for the first time !
(Angel's son by "Kodiak Little Boy".."Cassey" is a sweetie.. keeping him made me fall in love with males.. he was so adorable people used to try to buy him from me when they would come to see his kids..
By 1992 I had had my son Cody and Angel took him into the family as well..

(Angel's daughter "Precious" and son "Cassey")

My kids were raised with puppies to snuggle since birth... they are a great help teaching the pups to be good with kids!
After her first few litters she began having a few lemon pups in each litter, I liked the blond pups and they seemed to often be the first of the litter to be chosen.. so I worked on coat colors to see if we could expand the rare color market.
both
Angel and her daughter by "Kodiak Little Boy " have lemon pups in their litters,
see him on Show Champion Bloodlines page (Click here)

It wasn't long till I realized people were choosing pups that matched their families! Blonds picked lemons, red heads picked the red and white pups that came along and so on.. Soon I began specializing in the rarest colors.. even developing some no-one else produced !!
This was the idea behind Miss Christina's Yuppie Puppies, pups that matched their owners ! and the results were amazing !
Next we achieve "Mini" Beagles in rare colors... Midget's son Stuart is the smallest ever !
(Mini-size "Stuart" goes in to the Vet for his three month check-up, he weighs only 2-1/2 pounds on the vet's scales !! Wow !!
I added in a smaller size to work on lap size dogs, and rare colors to work on coats, and got adorable less shedding house pets, with Angel's gentle, stay home nature.. Now we have waiting lists for upcoming litters, and people love the gorgeous puppies this breeding produces..
-----------------------
our customers wait months for one of these adorable pups and come pick them usually when their eyes are open, this local teacher who's friend referred her to us ,waited 6 months for a pup by the same mom. Then came out and chose her son the day he was born.. she and her husband weren't able to have children, so Willy is their kid and they love him to pieces!

Willy gets to come visit us and play with our dogs while we have a cookout in the gazebo.
Less Shedding..
This picture is of a typical Tri-color Beagles bath.. the amount of fur that comes out is quite a bit !
So I started working on the less shedding rare color pups.. and they do shed quite a bit less.. which is nice when you plan to have the dog in the house. These coats are exclusive to Sunshine Acres Beagles
( this crate belonged to a dog that came to stay with us while his folks went to England-in three days there was this much hair piled up next to it!!)
We believe breeding a certain bloodline we have developed produces these coats, as well as feeding the best available dog food on the market consistently, Eukanuba is made for superior coats with the unique Omega 3 fatty acids for shiny healthy coats like ours. We also add fresh chicken , cheese, and other meats to our dogs diet when we have pregnant moms to feed so we get the best possible puppies!
Shiny coats !!

We recommend our customers stay with either Iams or Eukanuba brand dog food for the life of the dog.. anything less compromises not only the coat , but the health of the animal. It's like one pet store owner who sold Iams told me.. most brands are like feeding your child hot dogs and ice cream every meal. They may eat it, but they wouldn't stay healthy for long on that diet ! My girl friend in Seattle who bred several breeds of dogs told me her dogs were loosing litters and she went to talk to her vet friend about it. He asked the all important question ,what are you feeding the moms.. she told him she was using Wal-Mart brand food at the time.. he told her there is no regulating agency for dog foods and the consumer must check the ingredients for themselves , even then it can be hard to know what you are getting. He told her about a big hush, hush law suit underway with a big company who claims to have high protein value. He said it had come out that they were actually using boot leather as a source of protein!! Others use horse hair!, one company claims to have chicken by product.. which should mean organs, and so on ,in this case they used chicken beaks, legs etc.! Yikes, some co.'s use corn, others call corn stalks corn! I have compared them all, and found my dogs do the best on Iams & Eukanuba food. Because it is so nutritious . Chicken Meat is the first and most important ingrediant !

We do everything possible to start them out right.. It's up to you to continue it so you have a long and rewarding relationship with your new little family member. Dogs on a healthy diet can live to be 12 to 15 years old!!
Yuppie Puppies
Yuppies with Puppies We went to Myer's Park to visit tiny "Margaret" the lemon beagle in her mom's arms above.. and brought a Khaki, and a Chocolate Red puppy along.. Yuppie photo op !
Ty pups !
What fun ... we even started producing "Bernie the Beanie" look a-likes !!
And Snoopy styles occasionally! More white than normal with round black spots on their sides
and then the really rare exclusive Silver beagles..

And our gorgeous Khaki Cuties.. found no where else but Sunshine Acres Beagles..

People write to us and send photos often of their dogs.. these two sisters were shipped to customers in Seattle after we moved South. Both owners live in the same apartment complex and they write to tell us what great pals their girls are, they take them off leash to parks and the waterfront.. hunting hounds with the instinct to track animals would be long gone off leash like this

I assume they inherited this stay home nature from Miss Angel.. she was allowed outside in an unfenced front yard often and would stay home ..Aubie and the two other previous beagles I had from Field Trial bloodlines would've been gone like a shot!
It's all in the blood.. INSTINCT RULES..
My first dog "Katie" given to me by an uncle who
hunted..
This dog learned to climb right out of our fenced
yard and go off to the woods near our neighborhood.. before long it got built up
and I would worry all night long while she was gone.. crossing the streets to
get home was dangerous and I finally gave her to a family who had a big farm out
in the country where she could hunt.
This dog and the next two Beagles I had all came from Hunting bloodlines and couldn't help the instinct to hunt.. when I got angel and she didn't have that desire.. I decided to breed her in an attempt to develop Homebodies that made good pets..
We call our dogs Couch Potatoes now.. satisfied to be home with the family our pups make Beagle ownership enjoyable !!
continued under construction
soon to come..
Angel the Hero dog
Angel saves me from a Rottweiler attack
Angel saves Cody and Christi when they get lost hiking on a mountain
Angel saves a stranger from a copperhead bite.
sorry, miss c . gets teary eyed when she gets to this part and cant seem to work on it..
she was an awesome pet and began our wonderful pet beagle bloodline..
